MSA delegation led by Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk visited South Africa embassy in Damascus on 14/8/ 2016 and was greeted by the embassy’s first political secretary Selby Matloga.
Dr. al-Irk talked about the dimensions of the Syrian crisis , its causes and consequences on the Syrian state, which has been experiencing an organized war of terror , supported and armed by regional and Western countries, adding that this war does not only threaten Syria, but world peace and security.
Dr al-Irk commended South Africa principled stances , and support for the Syrian right and the international efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, noting that the West’s aggressive policy and ambitions to control peoples resources threatens world countries including South Africa, which is one of the richest African countries, by virtue of its natural resources , which make of it in the ranks of world’s developed countries, economically.
He also noted the distinctive democratic experience played by South Africa, and proved great success in national reconciliation processes, following centuries of bloody wars , that claimed the lives of millions of innocent people.
He spoke about the political situation and the fierce attack, Syria has been experiencing since almost six years, with the fact that the West and some regional states are using armed terrorist groups to undermine Syria ‘s stability security and independence.
MSA President expressed appreciation for stances of South Africa’s leadership and people, in siding with Syria in its war against terrorism and welcomed its participation in Syria’s reconstruction process, stressing the inevitability of victory over terrorism.
In turn, Mr. Matloga affirmed his government support for the efforts mounted by the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism , and rejection of foreign interference in its internal affairs and policies of regime change by force, stressing South Africa condemnation for terrorism and the need to refrain from providing any support for terrorist organizations , which target world security and peace.
He expressed appreciation for the heroic steadfastness mounted by the Syrian people, noting Syria’s ancient culture and deeply rooted traditions.
He called for the need to enhance and deepen relations between the two countries at all levels.
Mr. Matloga talked about the vicious attack that targeted the Syrian state and the disastrous sabotage resulted from terrorism which destroyed the Syrian national institutions. He expressed confidence in the steadfastness of the Syrian people, and that Syria will remain strong and a hard number in international equations.
Then, Dr. al-Irk presented the South African official with MSA shield , as an expression of friendship and gratitude for South Africa people and government.
