Mother Syria Assembly (MSA) held its preparatory conference on “Economic Governance and Good Governance for Future Syria” on Thursday 25 May at the Hermitage Hotel in Damascus.
In an inaugural speech , MSA President Dr Mahmoud al-Irk called for dedicating efforts to maintain a qualitative transition by adopting a vision, enabling us to face the bitter reality resulting from the crisis, especially as we face today the challenge of building a new and promising Syria for all its people.
Dr. al-Irk expressed confidence that the experts participants in the conference will draw a genuine roadmap to reach a real economic output related to the future of Syria, starting from scratch and then inspiring from the Syrian stock after adopting projections of modernity on Syria’s wealth inside and outside the country, and contributing to build Syria of tomorrow and preserve the Syrian cultural identity.
Director of al-Rida Center for Training and Development, Dr. Hani Al-Khoury, stressed the importance of not only social and economic development but also the foundation for building real management, opening opportunities and rational management, especially with the need to highlight points of strengths in the economy so as to obtain a balanced economy by analyzing the development gaps, the potential of the Syrian economy, focusing on a high performance in the service industry, and restoring national industries that have added value by virtue of location or availability of raw material.
“During the conference, we discussed new development tracks for Syria, and other issues addressing human resources issues, preparation of administrative leaders for the future and research on economic governance issues,” Khoury added.
For his part, President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Ghassan Al-Qalaa said that Syria is for all Syrians with all their affiliations and Syria is also for those who defended it and contributed to defending its glory.
He stressed the importance of rethinking the curriculum of education and focusing on strengthening morals and patriotism, praising those who clung to the Syrian land despite sorrows and declined to leave it despite the risks of war and economic and living pressures.
Speakers to the conference stressed the need to set priorities through the innovative approach, by adopting flexibility so that there is no fixed templates , the need to leave old tools, and not to make way for random paths, and emphasize the importance of dialogue, whether partial or total, leading to a common result , so as to complete the picture between the government and the citizen on the ground, and the need for networking with international actors and organizations concerned.
The experts discussed during the conference how to organize and manage the meetings and coordination of scientific files debated before the conference, and stages of implementation.
The themes of the conference highlighted dimensions of good governance, governance and public policies, government and local administration, government and gender, governance and civil society, and economic governance.
The conference brought together more than 60 national and international experts, scientific and academic figures and members of trade union, intellectual, cultural, social, political and youth leaders. It will become an annual periodic event , to cope with the post-crisis stages of national reconstruction and development in Syria.
The participants were then divided into working groups to emphasize the agenda of the next conference, which will present a number of economic issues related to the most important economic development tracks in Syria after the crisis, the pillars and national foundations for development and reconstruction in Syria, and how economic development is compatible with sustainable development, attracting and employing new funding mechanisms in the new national development plan, human resource reality and human resources map to be prepared for the future of development and construction in Syria, natural and sovereign resources to be invested in the reconstruction phase in Syria, the leaders and human cadres and the mechanisms of governmental organization to keep up with the period of reconstruction in Syria,
The coming conference will discuss factors and mechanisms of reducing the standard cost of development and construction in Syria , the high quality of implementation, adoption of international experiences in urbanization and development and shedding light on the largest modern international urban experiences of success , in addition to safe and balanced strategic sources for economic finance in Syria, and how to raise the level of management and control corruption and channeling energies and available resources effectively towards development and urbanization,
In conclusion, several committees were formed to follow up the conference’s decisions and prepare for the “Conference on Economic Governance and Good Governance for the Future of Syria” to be held at the beginning of next August.
worthy mentioning that MSA considers that Syria is a political, social, cultural and economic unit and aims to create opportunities and investments in the field of small industries to develop the youth’s capacity and increase their contribution to private investment. It also works on preparing solutions for economic, political and social problems in Syria based on Scientific research and application of results.
