MSA has launched the Integrated Model City / Zaitoun City as the first city of its kind in the Middle East during its 2nd economic conference held on Tuesday 22/1/2019 under the title “Integrated social and economic construction” in cooperation with the Syrian Investment Authority and the Authority General for Development and Real Estate Investment at Damarose Hotel in Damascus.
“We are working to invest Syrian expertise to reach the best situation in all areas, socially, economically and culturally based on the current reality and through identifying the potential, concerns and obstacles,” said MSA President Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk.
He pointed out that the project cost of the project will not exceed 2.25 billion US dollars, noting readiness of Chinese and Russian companies willingness to implement the project in addition to several Syrian banks to contribute to the management of the financial portfolio of the city.
The conference included documentary presentations about the 15 km city which is located between Damascus countryside and Homs , and lectures focused on the role of water resources in urban development, housing units and public utilities, the concept of modern management and its methods .Other lectures on community health and knowledge building, the role of international relations in promoting investment, and the role of renewable energies in reconstruction.
In an interview with MSA website Director General of the Syrian Investment Authority, Madyan Diab, said that the authority supports all initiatives aimed supporting national economic investment and encouraging social activity .
He added that within its strategic plans , the authority examines the wishes of investors and turns them into opportunities and projects, noting the importance of optimal utilization of resources and efficient and effective management and support the wheel of productivity.
For her part, Dr. Ghada Dheim, a professor at Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University said that project will be self-sufficient and will provide all services. It includes 30 thousand housing units, schools, places of worship, university, hospital and a cemetery with a project of 50 thousand cows, that will result in factories for dairy and fertilizers, veterinary medicines and renewable energies, indicating that the city has a typical design to that it will be built in the internal area near the Badia unlike other projects built in the areas of residential communities and thus contribute to the investment of free spaces to solve the problem of housing and the creation of productive projects.
The Iraqi Charge d’affaires in Damascus, Nassir al-Azzawi, said that MSA proposed project is a new and ambitious experience in the reconstruction of Syria, pointing out that Iraq can benefit from this experience in terms of reconstruction of areas affected by terrorist attacks.
Engineer Basheer Al-Abdullah, Director General of al-Enmaa and Construction Company said that the Zaitoun City project contributes to finding a large number of solutions to various problems, the most important of which is the population issue, job creation, environmental support and mitigation of pollution due to reliance on renewable sources of energy and the establishment of integrated production units. A model for which other projects are measured.
Dr. Ibrahim Said, MSA member , said that Zaitoun City project contributes to presenting the potential of Syria and its resources in the urban expansion and the establishment of the foundations and infrastructure which contribute to solving the problem of major cities in terms of reducing population pressure by establishing neighboring cities such as this integrated city.
In their interventions, participants pointed to the importance of the project as a nucleus of integrated construction with a sophisticated social fabric and modern economic construction that meets modern needs, service systems, sustainable energy and high technology.
MSA has been working to invest Syrian expertise to reach the optimal situation in all areas social, economical and cultural fields based on studying the current reality.
It is worth mentioning that MSA held its first economic conference on 16 and 17/12/2017 at Damascus University entitled “Towards a National Economic Vision for future Syria “. The researchers presented 17 papers in three axes focused on developments in the global economic system and their impact on reconstruction , the development of Syria and the approach of the Arab economies after the wars and protest movements and their mutual effects and an analytical review of economic policies before and during the crisis and their implications for development and social justice in addition to the losses inflicted on the Syrian economy during the crisis and the impact of economic sanctions and foreign relations before and during the war and the role of the state in the economy and other related topics.
