Mother Syria Assembly (MSA) first economic conference ” National Economic Vision for Future Syria organized in cooperation with Damascus University, was opened on Saturday December 16, 2017, at Damascus University premises, in the presence of a large crowd of political and economic figures and heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus.
In an inaugural speech Mother Syria Assembly (MSA) President Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk said that Syria has been experiencing, over the past seven years, a catastrophic crisis that affected all its capabilities and potentials , resulted in a massive destruction of the infrastructure, total disruption of the economy, social rift and enormous environmental damage .
Such a situation, he noted created a great challenge in the Syrians to eliminate the crisis, rebuild what was destroyed by the brutal war ,and to arrange priorities based on what they learned from the bitter experience derived from this war.
They bid to build the Syrian economy by Syrian hands on the principle of the interrelated relation between politics and the economy, dismiss foreign agendas concerning Syria’s future, constitution, and reconstruction , aiming to perpetuate dominance and subordination. We will not be isolated, rather open up to what helps us in rebuilding, with a local formulation adopted by common sense and a spirit of national affiliation to Syria.
Our initiative implies a call for integrating efforts of all national parties (governmental, legislative, civil society organizations trade unions, private and public bodies, and self-regulated institutions such as legal, economic and technical experience centers) in order to provide an economic, political, and social vision for Syria’s future, to find a developmental model compatible with people’s aspirations , matching requirements of development and modernization, and draw the road-map to attain set goals and results.
Therefore, it is necessary to highlight economic facts experienced by the Syrian economy and understand them accurately, so that we can find and analyze inputs and true data before starting the process of rebuilding , and formulate a balanced, sound , and carefully studied development model, with proposals to be discussed at national level and adopted by sides concerned.
This conference is an opportunity for all Syrians to review, and rethink of the drastic conditions facing the homeland, the state and the nation, that can be eliminated through solidarity, unity, national vision, and national, moral and human sensibility.
“We hope days and years ahead will bring peace and calm, security and stability to Syria, and unity, solidarity and hope in a better life and future for the Syrians in their homeland”, he concluded.
