In a huge celebration held on April 20, 2017, at Damascus Orient Club, Mother Syria Assembly (MSA) President Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk presented several professors, participants in the first forum for anesthesia and reanimation , with certificates of appreciation for their sound contribution to the success of the first forum , which was held at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Damascus, with MD prof. from Germany, Lebanon, Sudan and Syria.
In an inaugural speech, MSA President welcomed the professors , participants in the forum and highlighted MSA activities , as a national assembly par excellence, which includes Syrian academics with various , social, medical, media, education, culture and economic specializations from all over the country, as an expression of efforts to maintain Syria’s national unity.
The honored professors expressed happiness over being decorated with certificate of appreciation by MSA and voiced support for the Syrian people who are struggling, despite the crisis for life and for rebuilding new Syria.
On participation in the forum, MD, Prof Christoph Rangger said that he is taking part in this forum as part of his mission in making surgery abroad , with a number amounting 600 international surgery a year, adding that he knows a lot of Syrians and they contacted him at home by phone . He continued that he was invited to the forum , as he is well known as he has been treating multi- national patients including Russians, Saudis , Egyptians .
He said he used to travel abroad and participate in surgeries and attend conferences , and also work for the German Development bank , which finances hospitals abroad, in his capacity as chairman of Orthopaedic , Trauma and Spine Surgery , public hospital in Germany.
He continued that he is Austrian but went to Germany, where he became head of Trauma department in Bonn hospital and in 2007 he left Bonn for Frankfurt .
” I am not afraid to come to Syria”, Prof Rangger said, when asked if it was risky for him to visit Syria , adding that every body knows about the Syrian crisis and that he has in Syria before in 2008 , when he performed surgeries and knew the Syrian hospitals from inside.
He noted that the Syrian health sector has many discrepancies , but Syrian doctors have very good reputation, adding that the problem which was for many years ago lies on that Syria had not full support and is not integrated in the international community because of politics, which is a big problem, because there is a need to exchange and train Syrian doctors, who also must be able to travel abroad and participate in meetings and in researches, and on the other hand, other people must come in and participate here , a matter which is very difficult and has been difficult for many years, actually.
So the situation, he continued is a real deficit, it is created , medicine doubles knowledge within 10 years, and after 10 years every thing will be on new basis
Under a five- year crisis in Syria, such meetings are important that the Syrian side can exchange again knowledge and opinions, which is very important, he said.
On his reading of the situation in Syria he said he does not believe the media and tries to know facts from people and that like every body, the Syrian people want to enjoy life, and every body has the same complaints, adding that human beings are very similar , but have small differences in terms of culture and that when you think about the sick, we are all the same .
He said he had toured the whole country and that Syria has a very diverse and old culture, and the Syrians are very educated
He regretted that it is surprising that Syria is on the news every day, but sometimes it disappears completely, and it is not known why and the news” we get” are different and contradictory . ” What I personally do is I listen to and watch different news “. In the cable news , we have Russia, US, Chinese, the BBC news and even al-Jazeera, and from all these different view points one c an get his own conclusions .
The expectations for the Syria is that some one has to rebuild the country through the Syrian people and nobody is interested here, only you, as Syrians will be interested in doing so.
” Take out all guns and weapons, then the war will stop, and things will be easy and then the Syrians can rebuild the country”, he said, recommending to read lessons from Europe experience in building new Europe after World War II .
