Under the auspices of the Syrian ministries of culture ,information and tourism, and under the title (loyalty to the Icon of faithulness ) the Syrian phoenix initiative , with the participation of Mother Syria Assembly ( MSA) held a memorial ceremony honoring late Lebanese musician Melhem Barakat in fulfillment of his rich artistic creations and national attitudes toward Syria, The event was held on 1/2/2017 at al-Assad Opera House for culture and Arts.
The ceremony started with a film highlighted the life of the late musician since he was born in Kfarchima village , and his artistic and creative works , and testimonies were given by Lebanese artists and composers , who had worked with him and were his partners in his long artistic life, including his daughter, poet Nizar Francis,and renowned Lebanese singer Walid Tawfiq .
The film was conluded by a song with the voice of musician Barakat. It was his last song which talked about Syria’s steadfastness and the sacrifices rendered by the Syrian army against the conspiracy, stressing that ” Ashaam” will remain steadfast against aggressors and emphasized militant solidarity between Syria and Lebanon.
Stressing the importance of the occasion, MSA President, Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk , emphasized that honoring musician Melhem Barakat in Damascus by MSA is based on MSA principles in building a national spirit, and a celebration of the beginning of the decline of the conspiracy woven against Syria and a challenge and determination to survive “and revive once more “against all schemes being hatched against Syria.
Dr. al-Irk added that commemorating the late musician Barakat in Damascus signifies persistance that Syria will always remain a haven of peace and love, and an incubator for art and artists, who are sincere for her in the fight against terrorism, considering that such a recognition of the great artist Melhem Barakat is a token of love and loyalty for a great nationalist figue who devoted a life-span for creative art, committed with great innovative value resides in the memory and the conscience, inspired from an artist who has been well-known for his unwavering stances towards Syria, his second homeland.
The Minister of Culture Mohammad al-Ahmad said that “what comes from the heart reaches the heart, and with this brief and deep expression, we can sum up Melhem Barakat ‘s creativity and his accumulated artistic experience. I think he was one of those par excellence, who did not sing his songs and addresses the audience, only by the language of the heart, but with all his temper. He sought to provide the best of what he had , and for all of that, Syria loved him and he reciprocated the same love with her , and he has ever been a dear guest , whenever invited for any occasion by his second homeland, Syria. ”
The ceremony was confined to several songs and musical performances composed by the late composer, chanted b singers Imad Rammal and Hazem al-Sharif from Syria, the late musician son Waed Melhem Barakat, and Lebanese singer Mueen Sharif, accompanied by “Orpheus” music orchestra of the opera house, run by maestro Andre Maalouli.
Then , the three ministers of culture, information and tourism , head of the Phoenix Initiative and Dr. Mahmoud al-Irk honored the late musician’s family, in the person of his wife and Dr. al-Irk decorated the wife of the deceased, with MSA shield .
The ceremony was attended by a large crowd of invitees ,included artists, journalists and Syrian drama stars as well as political, cultural, artistic and media figures from both Syria and Lebanon.
